Pakistan- Seminary teacher arrested for alleged sexual assault on student


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) NOWSHERA: A teacher of a religious seminary has been arrested in Nowshera over allegedly trying to sexually abuse a 13-year-old student.

Police said a resident of Shireen Kotha area lodged a complaint that his son is a student at a religious seminary who was sexually assaulted by his teacher. He said his son was sleeping along with other friends at the madrassa when the teacher came at mid-night, woke him up and tried to sexually abuse him. However, the boy resisted and told his parents about the incident.

The district police chief formed a team for the arrest of the accused, which arrested the accused within few hours of lodging of complaint. Police did not provide further details about investigation from the accused.

Several incidents of sexual abuse of children have been reported from Nowshera recently which has created grave concerns within the civil society and residents about safety of their children.

On Tuesday, a boy was allegedly gang-raped by four young men in Pabbi area of Nowshera.

Last Saturday, a girl, Ewaz Noor, was killed after sexual abuse in Nowshera. Police said the girl went out of her house for religious class, but did not return home. The body of the girl was found near the victim's house late in the night. Two accused nominated in the FIR were arrested. The main accused revealed during investigation that he killed the girl to avenge his own sexual abuse by the girl's uncle.

On December 22, a 13-year-old female Madrassa student accused two persons of sexually abusing her after kidnap in Sanobar Killi, Pir Sabaq. On December 12, an eight-year-old boy was sexually abused by two accused in Amangarh area. On November 01, a man subjected his 13-year-old stepson to sexual abuse in Petao area of Akora Khattak. Another such incident was also reported in Nowshera on September 08.

Meanwhile, Darul Uloom Haqqania Akora Khattak has issued a Fatwa (edict) over increasing incidents of sexual abuse in Nowshera.

The Fatwa says sexual abuse is a heinous crime and culprits of such crimes must face strict punishment. After the crime is proved, a culprit will be subjected to Rajm or 100 lashes. The Fatwa says culprits of murder will have to pay Qisas (retaliation in kind).
