Prince Charles visits Bethlehem, meets Palestinian leader

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RAMALLAH, Jan 24 (KUNA) -- Britain's Prince Charles visited Bethlehem and met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Friday.
While meeting the prince, the Palestinian leader voiced hope that Britain would recognize the State of Palestine in the near future, just as "recommended by the British parliament".
However, he thanked Britain for accepting the two-state solution and opposing the so-called "deal of the century", as well as aiding in the building of Palestinian state institutions.
On his part, Prince Charles said he was honored to visit Palestine and meet President Mahmoud Abbas in the holy city of Bethlehem.
He commended British-Palestinian ties as deep-rooted, hoping that peace would prevail in the region as soon as possible.
Earlier in the day, Prince Charles visited the Omar mosque and the Church of the Nativity. (end)
