The Contract of the Century, which is a masterpiece created as a result of tremendous efforts by national leader Heydar Aliyev, as well as the revenues this agreement brought to Azerbaijan, had a huge impact on the current welfare of the Azerbaijani people and gave a powerful impetus to the revival of both oil and non-oil sectors of the economy, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev said in an exclusive interview withTrendon the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Contract of the Century and the Oil Workers' Day.
Just like how important the signing of this contract was for Azerbaijan, the effective management of the income that came from its implementation required the same responsibility, perseverance and skills, he said.
'The firm will of the head of state Ilham Aliyev, who determined the main vectors of the sustainable development strategy of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR became the decisive factor in this direction,' Abdullayev noted. 'Thanks to namely his instructions, SOCAR has transformed from a relatively small local oil company into a global energy company over the past 10 years. During this period, oil revenues were invested in the training of competent personnel that meet the requirements of market economy in Azerbaijan, the technical and technological capabilities of SOCAR were enhanced. The technological solutions used today in the country's oil and gas industry are in no way inferior to international standards, and even many advanced technologies are applied only within the Caspian basin in Azerbaijan. Therefore, many foreign countries and partner companies in the Caspian basin use the services of namely our companies in the oil and gas industry and other areas.'
The SOCAR president emphasized that 90 percent of employees participating in international projects being implemented in Azerbaijan are Azerbaijani citizens.
'This is reflected in the fulfillment of the requirements set by the country's leadership to foreign companies, and it became possible due to funds invested by the Azerbaijani side in the preparation of local specialists based on international level trainings,' he said. 'Today, SOCAR, guided by instructions of the head of state, is already carrying out operations between 40 countries as Azerbaijan's global brand. Azerbaijan, having established itself as a reliable partner for foreign investors, today via SOCAR is already making multibillion investments in foreign countries, thereby creating additional and stable sources of income.'
He added that the main pillar of economic stability in Azerbaijan is the political stability that has reigned in the country, the far-sighted strategy of the country's leadership, its innovative management philosophy, which is constantly looking for new styles and solutions.
'If so far we have achieved success by the current means, this doesn't mean that these tools will continue to be effective,' Abdullayev said. 'Azerbaijan's sustainable development strategy is built namely on this progressive thinking. We, as Azerbaijani oil workers, borrowing this way of thinking from the country's leadership, intend to increase our efforts even more in the future.'
