Jordan- FM meets Oman


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Masqat, June 26 (Petra) -- Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi on Wednesday held talks with His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tariq Al Said, Oman's Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Personal Representative of His Majesty the Sultan of Oman.
The talks focused on ways to strengthen relations and develop cooperation between Jordan and Oman, in addition to regional developments and means of dealing with them to achieve security and stability.
The foreign minister also held a meeting with his Omani counterpart Yusuf bin Alawi on the practical steps that the two countries will take to boost the economic cooperation, primarily investment in the tourism sector.
Safadi and bin Alawi highlighted the constant improvement of the bilateral ties under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
They agreed to hold a meeting for the Jordanian-Omani Trade Committee under the chairmanship of Safadi and his Omani counterpart to come up with practical steps that would guarantee the aspired development in bilateral relations.
The meeting highlighted the importance of following up on agreements and memos through an ad hoc committee; and on working on increasing cooperation between the private sectors in the two countries to come up with institutional frameworks aimed at increasing trade and investment cooperation.
Key regional issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause, were also discussed in the meeting.
Safadi and his counterpart underscored that the only way to solving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is by establishing a Palestinian state on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital on the basis of the two state-solution and according to international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
They also stressed the importance of de-escalation in the Arabian Gulf region and on ending the current crisis through dialogue, noting that the region cannot withstand further escalation and new crises.
The two ministers pointed out to the significance of exerting true efforts to overcome the regional challenges and crises by political means.
