Putin simplifies acquiring of Russian citizenship for residents of occupied Donbas


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Russian President Vladimir Putin has allowed the residents of occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in eastern Ukraine to get Russian citizenship under a simplified procedure.

This is stipulated in the Decree 'On Defining the Categories of Persons Entitled to Apply for Citizenship of the Russian Federation under Simplified Procedure for Humanitarian Purposes which was signed by the Russian leader, the press service of the Kremlin reports.

In particular, the decree states that the persons permanently residing in the territory of certain areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions of Ukraine have the right to apply for acquiring the citizenship of the Russian Federation under a simplified procedure in accordance with Part 8 of Article 14 of the Federal Law of May 31, 2002 No. 62-FZ "On Citizenship of the Russian Federation."

It is noted that the decree enters into force on the date of its official publication.
