Australian court convicts Cardinal George Pell of sexual assault


(MENAFN) Cardinal George Pell has been sentence to six years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting 2 boys in Australia.

He previous Vatican treasurer is the most senior Catholic figure ever to be convicted with sexual assaults against toddlers.

Pell committed his crimes against the choir boys, aged 13, in a Melbourne cathedral in 1996, according to a jury.

The cardinal, aged 77, denied the charges and has lodged an appeal.
