Iraq: suicide car bomb blast kills 1 policeman, wounds 3

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, not less than one policeman was murdered and three others injured in a uicide car bomb attack in Iraq's northern province of Kirkuk, a provincial police source emphasized.

The attack occurred in the afternoon when a suicide bomber drove his explosive-laden car into a federal police checkpoint close to the town of al-Riyadh in the south of the provincial capital Kirkuk, some 250 km north of the national capital Baghdad, Saad al-Obeidi informed Xinhua.

The number of killed people could increase as ambulances and police vehicles evacuated the murdered and injured to the town hospital, while the security forces cordoned off the area, al-Obeidi affirmed.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, but the Islamic State (IS) militant group, in most cases, has been responsible for such suicide attacks hit security forces and areas where groups of people gather, containing markets, cafes and mosques.
