'A Star Is Born': Classic formula for film's success
Film 1

A Star Is Born is directed by Bradley Cooper and stars himself alongside Lady Gaga and Sam Elliott.

The movie explores the relationship between Gaga and Cooper's characters, who are songwriters with contrasting approaches to music.

The film has made waves in various award ceremonies including the Golden Globes and might have multiple nominations at Oscars, thanks to the relatable storyline and great execution.

'Bohemian Rhapsody': No time for losers, they are the champions
Film 2

Bohemian Rhapsody is a film by Bryan Singer starring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, the iconic lead singer of Queen.

The biography takes a few liberties with the facts of Mercury's life but has gained a lot of traction with audiences.

Having won the best film and best actor at Golden Globes, Bohemian Rhapsody might win big at the Oscars, as well.

'Black Panther': First superhero film to win Oscars?
Film 3

Black Panther, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan, is a Marvel movie.

The plot follows Black Panther or T'Challa becoming Wakanda's king and facing Killmonger who wants to plunge the world into war.

'BlacKkKlansman': This is America, racism in all areas
Film 4

Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman stars John Washington and Adam Driver.

The story follows a black detective who tries to infiltrate the Ku Klux Klan.

Perhaps, Lee might get a best director nomination this Oscars.

'Roma': A moving masterpiece in cinema
Film 5

Alfonso Cuaron's Roma is clearly one of the finest films of 2018.

It is an elegiac tale of Cleo, a maid in a middle-class Mexican family. Cuaron's masterful cinematography and the moving narrative has set this film a class apart from the others on this list.

Cuaron won the best director and foreign film at the Globes and should win big at the Oscars.
