Saudi Arabia says holy sites not for political slogans

(MENAFN) Saudi imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah stressed that the holy sites in the Kingdom are not places for political slogans, but for worship.

In a statement, imam Abdul Rahman as-Sudais said "the holy sites are places for worship, not for political slogans or sectarian or religious strike."

It comes as about 3.5 million Muslims are about to begin the annual Hajj pilgrimage in the holy sites in Saudi Arabia a week from now.

The imam emphasized that Saudi Arabia "is keen on taking care of all Muslims and is seeking to bolster ties and solidarity among members of the Islamic nation in light of the current circumstances."

He further added that "there is a war being waged on what Saudi Arabia is doing in the two Holy Mosques."
