Flying cars isn't the solution to traffic congestion: Elon Musk
23 Feb 2018

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said flying cars is not a good solution to the problem of traffic congestion.

The statement comes after Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi touted flying cars to be the future of commutation and said digging deep tunnels to create fast transportation lanes was needless.

This was a dig at Musk's Hyperloop project which aims at creating low-cost tunnels in cities.

Notably, Uber has already partnered with NASA to develop a new air-traffic control system which will manage eco-friendly aero-mobiles.

Aiming its flying taxis to roll out by 2020, Uber advocated that flying cars will use three-dimensional airspace to alleviate road congestion, much like skyscrapers.

"A network of small, electric aircraft that take off and land vertically will enable rapid, reliable transportation," it added.

On the other hand, Musk's company has also received permission from the US government to start digging tunnels between New York and Washington.

"Fast to dig, low cost tunnels would also make Hyperloop adoption viable and enable rapid transit across densely populated regions, enabling travel from New York to Washington DC in less than 30 minutes," the company said.
