Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev launched a new combined-cycle unit at Tashkent thermal power plant (TPP) on December 2, the press service of the head of state reported.
After commissioning of the new combined-cycle unit with a capacity of 370 megawatt, the station will produce an additional 2.6 billion kilowatt/hour of electricity and 110,000 gigacalories of heat per year.
The specific gas consumption for the generated electricity will be 223 g/kWh at the modern installation, while at the operating power units this figure is almost twice as high. As a result, 350.9 million cubic meters of natural gas are saved every year.
To realize this project, the first combined-cycle turbine and generators of the American General Electric were installed.
Equipment from Belgium, Italy, Russia and other countries was used for installation.
In addition, the products of domestic enterprises were widely used, including Uzkabel, Uzelektroapparat, Chirchik transformer plant and others. This made it possible to significantly save currency and effectively use the attracted investments.
Uzbekistan is the largest electricity producer in Central Asia. Total installed capacity of Uzbekistan's power plants exceeds 12.4 GW. Twelve thermal power plants, with a combined capacity of over 10.7 GW, and 31 hydro power plants, with a combined capacity of 1.7 GW, belonging to the Uzbekenergo, the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources, the Mining and Metallurgical Company Almalykand the Uzkhimprom Association, constitute the backbone of the electricity sector.
Tashkent combined heat and power plant, one of the main thermal power plants of Tashkent, was commissioned back in 1961. The plant provides the household and industrial consumers in Uzbekistan's capital with heat and electricity.
