(MENAFN) Over the past 22 years, Türkiye's share of global trade has more than doubled from 0.49 percent to 1.08 percent, according to the country's trade minister, Omer Bolat. Speaking at the MUSIAD Expo 2024 in Istanbul, Bolat also highlighted that Türkiye has risen to the rank of the 17th-largest global Economy by GDP and 11th in terms of purchasing power parity. However, he emphasized that while these achievements are commendable, there is still much more to be done, stating, "We have a long way to go."
The MUSIAD Expo 2024, which started on Tuesday, aims for USD1 billion in trade volume through business-to-business (B2B) meetings. The event brings together business leaders and investors from 88 countries, and Anadolu is the global communications partner for the expo. Bolat described the event as a significant platform for international trade and investment, connecting the Muslim business world across continents—from the US and Indonesia to South Africa, Russia, Portugal, the UK, and the Middle East.
Bolat also emphasized the Turkish Trade Ministry's commitment to supporting exporters, using all available resources to boost exports. The ministry engages in trade agreements with foreign countries, organizes international summits, and fosters collaboration among all stakeholders in the sector.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz expressed that the expo would contribute to regional and international economic cooperation and prosperity by facilitating new collaborations and investments.
