BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 5. Technip Energies,
Alterra, and Neste have announced a partnership aimed at advancing
the circularity of plastics through a standardized technology
solution for chemical recycling, also known as "advanced
recycling", Trend
reports.
The collaboration will focus on offering a modular solution
based on Alterra's proprietary liquefaction technology, enabling
stakeholders to establish chemical recycling capacity more
efficiently. This approach is designed to reduce pre-investment
costs and accelerate implementation, providing a predictable
economic outlook for projects while minimizing overall capital
expenditure.
Alterra's thermochemical liquefaction process converts
hard-to-recycle plastics into a liquid hydrocarbon product, which
can be further refined into high-quality raw materials for new
plastics and chemicals. Neste has already processed over 6,000 tons
of plastic-derived feeds, demonstrating the effectiveness of this
technology.
The three companies have been collaborating since 2021, with
Alterra and Neste enhancing the liquefaction technology, while
Technip Energies provides engineering and design support for the
modular solutions.
Frederic Schmuck, CEO of Alterra Energy, emphasized the aim of
lowering investment hurdles for companies interested in this
technology, stating, "We are enabling a copy-paste solution for
liquefaction plants, facilitating the rapid scaling of economically
viable recycling capacities worldwide".
Andreas Teir of Neste highlighted the strong demand for
sustainable solutions, saying, "We are eager to meet this demand by
providing easy-to-deploy liquefaction technology that contributes
to the growing need for liquefied waste plastic".
Bhaskar Patel from Technip Energies noted the market's demand
for proven technology and lower initial costs, indicating that
their joint solution will support scalable recycling projects and
aid companies in meeting their climate commitments.
