(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 19. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has named Mark Davis as its new Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region, Trend reports.

According to the bank, he will officially assume the role on October 1, 2024, succeeding Heike Harmgart, who has recently been appointed EBRD Managing Director for Sub-Saharan Africa.

An American national, Davis currently serves as the EBRD's Regional Head for Central Europe, overseeing operations in Croatia, Czechia, Hungary, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new position, Davis stated, "I am excited to lead the Bank's efforts in the SEMED region and further strengthen the economies where we invest. Building on my predecessor's achievements, I aim to accelerate the green transition, enhance corporate sector competitiveness, boost financial sector resilience, and promote inclusion and digitalization."

The EBRD began its operations in the SEMED region in 2012 and has since invested over €22.3 billion across 414 projects. These investments have supported the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, promoted agribusiness, developed infrastructure and local services, and advanced renewable energy and energy efficiency, as well as the development of local capital markets.
