Employees stage strike at IOC’s prestigious Paris hotel

(MENAFN) Ahead of the Paris Olympics' opening ceremony, employees at a prestigious five-star hotel in central Paris, reserved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), staged a strike on Thursday. The Hotel du Collectionneur witnessed approximately 30 staff members, including cooks, waiters, and technical personnel, participating in a two-hour protest during the breakfast service.

According to footage shared by the trade union CGT on its official social media account, the protesting workers lined the hotel corridors, advocating for wage increases and improved social benefits. Their placards bore slogans such as "Luxury hotel, poverty wages" and "No 13th month, no Olympics!"—the latter referencing a customary year-end bonus in France. Reports indicate that the striking employees also distributed informational leaflets among the hotel's clientele to garner support for their demands.

The CGT highlighted that the hotel staff have not received a salary raise for seven years despite undergoing five rounds of negotiations with the employer since mid-June. The latest negotiation session, held on Wednesday, failed to yield a resolution. Media reports suggest that the workers were offered a 2% salary increase, which they deemed inadequate, prompting the strike. Thursday's demonstration marks the fourth such protest at the Hotel du Collectionneur within the past six weeks.

The strike comes amid heightened attention due to the proximity to the Paris Olympics, underscoring labor disputes affecting essential services during major international events.
