Egypt's Minister of petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, hosted on Monday a high-level delegation from Italy's energy giant, Eni SpA, Egypt's largest investor in the energy sector to discuss further enhancing energy cooperation.
The delegation included Guido Brusco, Chief Operating Officer for Natural Resources, Martina Opizzi, Head of North Africa and Levant, Luca Vignati, Upstream Director, and other Eni officials.
Badawi underscored Eni's pivotal role as a strategic partner in Egypt's energy sector. He praised Eni's unwavering support and contributions, especially during challenging times, and its continued commitment to advancing Egypt's energy development efforts.
Badawi emphasised the petroleum sector's eagerness to achieve further collaborative successes with Eni, prioritising joint efforts to enhance production and develop oil and gas resources. These efforts are critical to the Egyptian economy and energy sector.
He highlighted the significance of Eni's advanced exploration and production technologies, which have been instrumental in achieving notable accomplishments and discovering significant fields in Egypt and globally, most notably the Zohr field.
The Minister also stressed the importance of cooperation with Eni in energy efficiency projects, promoting renewable energy sources, and reducing carbon emissions from oil and gas industry sites. These initiatives align with Eni's expertise and commitment in these areas.
Brusco reciprocated the warm welcome, expressing his pleasure at meeting Minister Badawi following his appointment in the new Egyptian government. He reaffirmed Eni's pride in its long-standing partnership with Egypt, which spans nearly seven decades, during which they have achieved remarkable milestones and overcome numerous challenges.
Brusco conveyed Eni's confidence in Egypt's commitment and the oil and gas sector's dedication within the framework of their enduring partnership. He announced plans to implement well-drilling programs in Eni's operational areas in Egypt, targeting increased production.
The meeting also addressed the importance of supporting cooperation in emission reduction projects in the natural gas industry, as outlined in the memorandum of understanding signed between the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) and Eni.
The discussions were attended by Yassin Mohamed, Chairperson of EGAS, Alaa Hagar, Undersecretary of Petroleum for the Technical Office, and Samir Raslan, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Agreements and Exploration.
