Amman, June 21 (Petra)-- Minister of government Communications, Muhannad Mubaideen, on Friday, said that some offices and individuals have deceived the Jordanian pilgrims, which led to the death of a number of them.
He also said that investigations into the circumstances surrounding Jordanian citizens' travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj outside of the Jordanian Hajj Mission and other authorized official Hajj routes were conducted by the Ministry of Interior and the security bodies, per a directive issued by Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh last Monday.
He added that the prime minister has asked to refer the case to the Public Prosecution which, in turn, conducted extensive investigations in addition to the security services' investigations, and they issued arrest warrants for a number of suspects, some of whom have already been taken into custody. These extensive investigations are still ongoing, and anyone wishing to profit from religion at the expense of innocent people's lives and safety is being directed to refer the matter to the Public Prosecution.
Mubaideen continued, saying that the Jordanian teams operating out of the consulate in Saudi Arabia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs' operations center are working around the clock to offer any assistance that they can. The specifics of these investigations and their progress will be made public once they are finished, in compliance with the legal frameworks that control them.
