Dubai-Bound Flight Receives Bomb Threat At Delhi Airport

New Delhi: A Dubai-bound flight scheduled to depart from Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport received a bomb threat via email on Monday (June 17) morning. According to authorities, the threat was received at 9:35 am and targeted a flight bound for Dubai from Delhi.
The Delhi Police confirmed the incident, stating, "On June 17 at 9:35 am, an email was received in the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) office, IGI Airport with the threat of a bomb inside a Delhi to Dubai flight." Despite the alarming nature of the threat, authorities took swift action, ensuring the safety of passengers and conducting thorough checks on the aircraft. Fortunately, no suspicious items were found, and the threat was deemed a hoax.
This incident is part of a concerning trend of hoax bomb threats targeting various institutions in Delhi. Last week, several museums in Delhi, including the National Museum and Rail Museum, as well as mental health institutes IHBAS and VIMHANS, received similar threats via email. However, extensive checks by the bomb detection teams and local authorities found no evidence of explosives at any of the locations.
Delhi has experienced a wave of hoax bomb threats in recent months, affecting schools, colleges, hospitals, and airports. In April, the Delhi High Court requested a detailed report from the Delhi government regarding hoax bomb threats in private schools.
Responding to the threats, the Delhi Police have deployed significant resources, including five bomb disposal squads and 18 bomb detection teams across districts, at the IGI airport, railway stations, and metro stations.
The Delhi Police Special Cell is actively investigating these email bomb threats, which have been traced back to various international mailing service companies. Despite the disruptive nature of these threats, no actual explosives have been found, reassuring the public of their safety.
