Algeria Convenes Electorate Ahead Of Sept's Presidential Elections


(MENAFN- Nam News Network) ALGIERS, Jun 9 (NNN-APS) – Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, yesterday, signed a presidential decree, convening the electorate ahead of the presidential elections, scheduled for Sept, the Algerian presidency said in a statement.

On Mar 21, Tebboune announced plans to hold early presidential elections on Sept 7, following a meeting with speakers of the parliament's upper house, the Council of the Nation, and lower house, the People's National Assembly, as well as, other high-ranking officials.

Tebboune was elected in Dec, 2019, for a five-year term, and can run for a second and final term, in accordance with the Algerian constitution. However, the president has not yet made any public announcement, regarding a second term.– NNN-APS
