Starting in December 2024, the packaging of tobacco products and cigarette packages must display five new images or pictograms that refer to health warnings for the consumption of these products.

General Directorate of Public Health of the Ministry of Health, it is established that the measure will be in force from December 1, 2024 and until November 30, 2025.

The images, which must be visible to the buyer, refer to health problems such as damage to teeth, gums, and bad breath, in addition to causing an acute heart attack.

Additionally, these packages must have images describing that smoking causes stroke, disability, premature birth, low birth weight of the baby, and erectile dysfunction.

The document establishes that tobacco industries, distributors, and marketers are ordered to submit a quarterly report to the General Directorate of Public Health indicating the volume of containers and packages of tobacco products, including cartons and cigarette packs, that circulate by brand. . In addition, the proportion of printed warnings corresponding to each brand must be specified regional health authorities, and the National Customs Authority to monitor compliance with the standard.
