Gazprom: Russia explores long-term natural gas cooperation with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan

(MENAFN) gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller has disclosed that Russia is exploring prospects for long-term collaboration in the supply of natural gas with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Miller stated to a Russian TV channel in an interview that was made public on Sunday that up until recently, Russia's relations with its friends in Central Asia could be characterized as transient. But now, he continued, "the task of reaching a 15-year horizon" has been set by the nations.

In response to a reporter's inquiry about the reversal of gas flow from Russia to Central Asia, compared to the Soviet era when it was the opposite, Gazprom CEO highlighted Russia's expansion of its natural resource base. He noted that Russia currently leads the world in terms of natural gas production.

“Secondly, we must understand that the countries of Central Asia are currently developing very dynamically. We understand the growth rate very well,” Miller continued.

Earlier this month, he announced Gazprom's intentions to enhance natural gas deliveries to Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan using the Central Asia-Center (CAC) pipeline system. He mentioned that the involved parties aspire to establish a contractual framework for cooperation by mid-2024.

Constructed between 1960 and 1988, the CAC is a 4,892km onshore pipeline project operated by Gazprom. It consists of natural gas pipelines extending from Turkmenistan through Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to Russia.
