Pakistan's military head restates backing for independent Palestinian state, immediate cease-fire

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Pakistan's military head restated his country’s backing for a self-governing Palestinian state and asks for an "immediate" end of fighting and opening of a humanitarian crossing to Gaza.

General Asim Munir vioced "grave concern over unabated violence and willful, indiscriminate" murder of innocent citizens by the Israeli forces in Gaza in a gathering with Palestinian Ambassador to Pakistan, Ahmad Jawad Rabei, at military headquarters in Rawalpindi.

“Pakistan believes that the fresh spate of violence in Gaza is the result of unabated repression, continued human rights violations and state-sponsored sacrilege of the Al Aqsa mosque," he declared.

"Taking a narrow and self-serving view of the issue as an isolated attack obscures brutal oppression spanning decades that has led to this outcome,” stated Munir, based on a report from the military.

He declared that continuous strikes on civilian inhabitants, schools, universities, aid staffs, hospitals and the obligatory evacuation of Palestinians from Gaza are obvious "crimes against humanity."

Munir reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering commitment to the creation of a sovereign, sustainable, and geographically connected Palestinian state, founded upon the borders existing before 1967, with its capital in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, also known as Jerusalem.

“At this critical juncture, it is imperative that the international community mobilizes to put an early end to the unfolding human tragedy due to disproportionate and unlawful use of force by Israeli defense forces and desist from encouraging them to continue perpetrating atrocities in manifest violation of all norms of civility and humane conduct,” he noted.
