Singapore Names Orchid After Qatari Prime Minister

Doha, Qatar: An orchid was named after Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani yesterday, August 24, in Singapore. His Excellency heads the Qatari delegation to the 8th meeting of the High-Level Joint Committee between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Singapore.

"The Prime Minister of Singapore [Lee Hsien Loong] gifted His Excellency the Singaporean flower, during the ceremony of naming the famflower after His Excellency," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on its social media handles.

The ministry added that "the gift comes as an expression of the depth of cooperation between Qatar and Singapore."

HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs is the latest leader to be honored in an 'orchid-naming ceremony', which has been Singapore's gesture of friendship and promotion of goodwill between visiting heads of state, world leaders, and other distinguished guests.

His Excellency also met with Singaporean President HE Halimah Yacob. The meeting discussed aspects of the strategic cooperation between the two countries and ways of enhancing and promoting them in varifields, in addition to regional and international issues of common concern.

HE Prime Minister of Singapore hosted a luncheon banquet in honor of HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and the accompanying delegation.
