Swiss Defense Ministry under probe due to cancelled Ukraine weapon agreement

(MENAFN) Swiss Defense Minister Viola Amherd has approved to an outside examination after administration-retained security free-lancer RUAG tried to trade tanks to a German intermediary so that they could be transported to Ukraine.

The probe was declared on Monday night, hours after Amherd took part in a hearing by the Swiss legislature’s Security Policy Committee.

Lawmakers demanded data on how much Amherd had known regarding the projected agreement, which the Swiss administration eventually congested previous month to guard the nation`s objectivity.

The issue rotates around a valued 96 Leopard 1A5 chief combat tanks, which RUAG bought in 2016 and keeps in stores in Italy.

The Swiss company looked to trade them to the creative German producer, Rheinmetall, to be renovated and directed to Ukraine. The contract was at first declared in February, however, the Federal Council decided in last few days of July that the conditions would violate Swiss rule and declined to allow the handover.
