Russian Soldiers Climb Trees: Mayor Of Nova Kakhovka Tells How Community Flooded

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The most difficult situation in the Nova Kakhovka community is due to flooding in the village of Korsunka, in Nova Kakhovka itself, the flooding reached the third street, but the water has already begun to retreat.

The mayor of Nova Kakhovka Volodymyr Kovalenko said this to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"Flooding occurred in Nova Kakhovka up to the third street, but today the water is already receding, the coast on which the city is located is more or less steep," the mayor said.

According to him, the park and recreation area remains underwater.

In addition, there is information that some multi-storey buildings are pumping water out of their basements - several trucks have arrived.

Kovalenko emphasized that the most tragic situation in the community is in the village of Korsunka. It is located 20 kilometers downstream from Nova Kakhovka, and the other bank is much lower.

"All the residents of Korsunka moved to four settlements of the community - Novi Lageri, Pishchane, Obryvka, Maslivka... Currently, only one elderly man cannot be found, we are trying to find out where he might be," said the head of the community.

According to him, local residents have organized themselves. Now they are trying to save the animals by boat.

Kovalenko emphasized that the villagers left the village in their own vehicles and helped each other. In the context of evacuation, the invaders "did absolutely nothing," just like in Nova Kakhovka. "The only thing was that last night they brought some blankets and some food packages to the village of Pishchane for those people who had left and did not have time to take anything with them," he said.

The head of the community noted that in Korsunka "the gymnasium is flooded up to the second floor." According to residents of the lower streets, the water began to arrive at 5 a.m. on June 6, when the Russians blew up the hydroelectric power station. People said that they heard the shouts of Russian soldiers at that time - they were climbing trees and asking for help.

"Between Korsunka and the Dnipro River itself, everything was mined, and they (the Russian military - ed.) were there. Korsunka ends about 500-600 meters from the shore, so there were Russian soldiers at this distance," Kovalenko explained.

Regarding other settlements of the community, he said that the streets near the Dnipro bank in Tsentralna Osnova, Dnipryany are flooded, but "it is 40-50 cm of water."

The official also noted that the occupiers did not offer people medical care. Now, in order to get a blood test, you have to get to the laboratory 30 kilometers away from Nova Kakhovka by your own transport, and if you have more serious problems, you have to go to Novotroitske or Henichesk, and they will ask if you have a Russian passport. As for medicines, there is a pharmacy in the city, but the prices are enormous.
