Chinese Investment in Iran Soars by 150 percent in 2022: Economic Counselor


(MENAFN) According to the portal of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (TCCIMA), Xu Qisong, the Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Tehran, has reported a significant increase in Chinese investment in Iran. Qisong stated that the investment from China in Iran has risen by an impressive 150 percent in 2022. This surge in investment surpasses the average volume of Chinese investments in other countries.

In addition to the substantial increase in investment, Qisong also highlighted a noteworthy development in the cooperation between the two countries in the oil and gas sector. He mentioned that the number of contracts signed for collaboration in oil and gas field development projects between China and Iran has multiplied by ten times in 2022. This remarkable growth in cooperation signifies the deepening ties between the two nations and their mutual commitment to expanding economic partnerships.

During a meeting with Bahman Eshghi, the Secretary General of TCCIMA, both parties emphasized the importance of further enhancing collaboration to tap into the business opportunities available to economic enterprises in both countries. Eshghi stressed the need for continued efforts in creating platforms that facilitate smoother trade and joint investments between Iranian and Chinese companies. By fostering these avenues of cooperation, they aim to maximize the potential benefits and strengthen economic ties between the two nations.

The Chinese ambassador to Tehran echoed the positive sentiment expressed during the meeting, stating that the current year marks a favorable period for Iran-China relations. This statement reaffirms the commitment of both nations to nurture and expand their economic and commercial partnership.
