Uzbekistan, Singapore Discuss Expanding Economic Cooperation


(MENAFN) During an official visit to Tashkent, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev engaged in discussions with Singaporean President Halimah Yacob to explore opportunities for the expansion of economic cooperation between the two countries. The talks focused on strengthening Political dialogue, enhancing inter-parliamentary relations, and fostering mutual support within international organizations, as stated by the Uzbek presidency.

The presidents acknowledged the significant progress made in bilateral trade, investment, and the overall economy. Singapore has emerged as one of the largest investors in Uzbekistan, with several substantial projects underway. Notably, Uzbekistan is implementing projects worth USD3.8 billion in sectors such as chemicals, textiles, transportation, logistics, urban development, and educational services in collaboration with leading Singaporean companies.

The discussions also emphasized the substantial potential for further enhancing economic cooperation. Both sides expressed confidence in the outcomes of the Uzbek-Singapore business forum, which formed a part of the visit's business program. It is expected that the forum will facilitate expanded investment cooperation with prominent companies in sectors such as trade, logistics, innovation, energy, and healthcare.

The engagements between Uzbekistan and Singapore highlight the increasing importance of fostering economic ties and capitalizing on mutually beneficial opportunities.
