NATO Allies Deliver 98 percent of Promised Combat Vehicles to Ukraine to Fight against Russian-Led War

(MENAFN) NATO's secretary-general, Jens Stoltenberg, announced on Thursday that the allies had delivered 98 percent of the combat vehicles pledged to Ukraine to fight off the Russian-led war. Speaking at a joint news conference with Luxembourg's Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, Stoltenberg revealed that over 1,550 armored vehicles, 230 tanks, and their equipment had been delivered to Ukraine. He also added that NATO trained nine new Ukrainian armored brigades, which are now "well-trained, well-equipped, and well-manned."

According to Stoltenberg, the delivery of combat vehicles and training of armored brigades will put Ukraine in a strong position to continue retaking occupied territory. He underlined that the best way to achieve a peaceful negotiated solution to the war, where Ukraine is represented as a sovereign, independent nation, is to provide military aid.

The announcement comes as Ukraine has been fighting a Russian-led war in the eastern Donbass region since 2014. The conflict has claimed the lives of more than 13,000 people and displaced millions. NATO has been supporting Ukraine in its efforts to defend itself against Russian aggression and has pledged to provide military aid to the country.

Stoltenberg's announcement highlights the alliance's commitment to supporting Ukraine and its efforts to regain control of its territory. The delivery of combat vehicles and training of armored brigades will provide Ukraine with the necessary resources to defend itself against Russian aggression and maintain its sovereignty.

In addition to the military aid provided by NATO, both Stoltenberg and Bettel welcomed the recent phone call between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Chinese President Xi Jinping. However, Bettel stressed that China should only play a role as a mediator in the conflict if it acknowledges that there is an aggressor and an aggressed country. He referred to how Chinese diplomacy fails to name Russia as an aggressor when communicating about peace plans.

Overall, the delivery of combat vehicles and training of armored brigades is a positive development for Ukraine and highlights NATO's commitment to supporting the country in its efforts to defend itself against Russian aggression. The recent phone call between Zelenskyy and Jinping also opens up the possibility of additional international support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian-led forces in the Donbass region.
