USA Win Mixed Team Trap Gold As Shotgun Doha 2023 Concludes

United States of America Team 2 yesterday clinched the gold medal in the mixed team trap competition as they signed off from the ISSF World Cup Shotgun Doha 2023 with a haul of six medals at the Lusail Shooting Range.

USA 2's William Hinton and Alicia Kathleen Gough beat Kuwait 1's Talal Alrashidi and Sarah Alhawal 6-0 in the championship match to secure the third gold for their country.

It is noteworthy that Hinton did not miss a single target throughout the competition and finished with a clean sheet of 90 out of 90, including all of the targets in the qualification round.

Meanwhile, Poland's Sandra Bernal and Piotr Kowalczyk managed to secure the bronze medal after overcoming Turkiye 2's Pelin Rumeysa Kaya and Tolga N Tuncer 6-4 in a thrilling five-round match.

Earlier, Kuwait 1's Alhawal and AlRashidi topped the qualification with a total of 145 hits on targets. USA 2's Gough and Hinton were second with 144 while Turkiye 2's Kaya and Tuncer finished third after overcoming Poland's Bernal and Kowalczyk in a shoot-off after both hit 143 each to advance to the bronze medal round.

Two Qatari teams, Hassan Kholoud Al Khalaf/Saeed Abusharib and Metha Hamad Albinali/Ahmad Majid Al Khelaifi, finished in 20th and 23rd positions with 133 and 124 hits respectively.

USA, with three gold, two silver and one bronze medal, topped the medal standings at the end of the nine-day World Cup, hosted by the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association under the auspices of the International Shooting Sport Federation.

Italy, with one gold medal and three bronze, finished second ahead of Australia and Turkiye who won one gold medal each to share the third place.

The 12-leg ISSF World Cup series will now move to Bhopal India for the Riffle and Pistol rounds before six more rounds which will take place in Larnaca (Cyprus), Lima (Peru), Cairo (Egypt), Baku (Azerbaijan), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Lonato (Italy) and Rio De Janeiro (Brazil).
