Blast Kills 2 Soldiers In SW Pakistan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, Feb 10 (KUNA) -- At least two Pakistan army soldiers were killed when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province, said the military on Friday.
According to a statement issued by Pakistan military's media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military launched an operation based on credible intelligence on February 10 in the Kohlu area of Balochistan to deny terrorists any liberty of action.
An IED exploded close to the leading party during the operation, said ISPR. It confirmed that two officers of the Pakistan army were killed in the explosion.
An operation is under way in the area to apprehend perpetrators and enemies of peace, it added.
'Such cowardly acts by inimical elements cannot sabotage the hard-earned peace and prosperity in Balochistan. Security Forces are determined to neutralize their nefarious designs even at the cost of blood and lives,' the statement concluded.
Following the blast, an emergency was imposed in the government run district hospital and all the medical staff, doctors and paramedics had been alerted.
The blast came after banned outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire with the government and initiated attacks across the country last month.
Earlier last week, a suicide blast took place inside a mosque in northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province killing over 100 people and wounding 200 others. After the attack, Pakistan military vowed to bring the perpetrators responsible for Peshawar mosque attack to 'exemplary justice'. (end)
