Households in Greece switch to firewood in winter avoiding oil, natural gas

(MENAFN) Senior citizen Kostas and Vicky in a northern Athens district have collected firewood for the approaching cold days.

Their house on the borders of Athens, near the Parnitha Mountains, gets really cold in the winter.

While they do have central heating, Kostas stated that “for now we will stick to wood, and wait and see how the weather will be.”

“I don’t know how things will go but we have to be prepared and not wait for the last minute, but I am worried as firewood has also gone up since last year,” he informed Anadolu.

Following the surge in the cost of electricity as well as fossil fuels, firewood shows to be taking a turn, as request hit red, as shown by retailers, and consumers are gathering to purchase massive quantities ahead of rates surge once more.

Firewood rose nearly 30 percent in comparison with the same time span in 2022 but citizens turn to it to stay away from using oil and natural gas, which are going off the charts.
