Sports Ministers criticize terms outlined for Olympic competition

(MENAFN) Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin and Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) President Stanislav Pozdnyakov have condemned the terms summarized for the nation's reintegration to Olympic race.

Their remarks were stated when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) issued a framework which might see athletes from Russia and Belarus participate in Asian Olympic qualification events.

The IOC declared on Wednesday that ways to end Russia’s Olympic isolation should be “further explored” and it accepted an offer from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to let Russia and Belarus take part at the Asian Games later in 2023.

It further noted that “governments must not decide which athletes can participate in which competition and which athletes cannot” in its declaration.

This came just hours when Ukraine leader Vladimir Zelensky detailed a telephone conversation he had with French President Emmanuel Macron in which he “emphasized that athletes from Russia should have no place at the Olympic Games in Paris.”
