Somalia Clashes Kill 7 Soldiers, 100 Militants - Agency


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Jan 20 (KUNA) -- Seven Somali soldiers, including a high-ranking officer, and at least 100 Al-Shabaab militants were killed in clashes in central Somalia on Friday, according to local reports.
The gunfight took place when the Somali National army responded to an abrupt attack by Al-Shabaab militants in the strategic city of Galcad in Galguduud region in central Somalia, reported the Somali National News Agency.
The Somali army launched a military operation against the militant group following its attack, military officials said, adding that seven soldiers, including a senior officer, were killed in the operation.
At least 100 militants were also killed, scores injured and weapons seized during the army operation, they added. (end)
