Dow Jones surges 0.4 percent as US share exchanges records weekly rises


(MENAFN) The Dow Jones surged over 0.4 percent on weekend whereas US share exchanges recorded weekly earnings in advance of Thanksgiving weekend.

The blue-chip Dow surged by 152 points, or 0.45 percent, to close at 34,347.

The S&P 500, on the other hand, was nearly unaffected standing at 4,026 with a 1-point decline.

The tech-heavy nasdaq decreased 59 points, or 0.52 percent, to finish at 11,226.

In spite of small day to day exchange and markets ending early because of the holiday weekend, all indexes recorded earnings for the week. The New York share Exchange and the Nasdaq were shut on Thursday because of Thanksgiving Day.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, increased 0.4 percent to 20.50. The 10-year US Treasury yield dropped 0.35 percent to 3.696 percent.

The dollar index earned 0.2 percent to 106.04, remained nearly at its peakiest since 2002, whereas the euro fell by 0.1 percent to reach USD1.0402 versus the dollar.
