Belgium sits at top of Group F after 1-0 Victory over Canada


(MENAFN) At the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Belgium defeated Canada 1-0 in their opening Group F match on Wednesday. Michy Batshuayi scored the lone goal for the Red Devils.

Alphonso Davies, a prominent Canadian player, missed an early penalty at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium following a handball by Yannick Carrasco of Belgium.

Davies attempted to score, but Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois stopped it to boost his team's morale.

Near the end of the first half, Belgium scored the winning goal.

After receiving a long pass from defender Toby Alderweireld, Belgian forward Michy Batshuayi fired a left-footed shot into the far corner of Canada's goal in the 44th minute. His volley overcame Milan Borjan, a Canadian goalie.

In the second 45 minutes, Canada had a scoring opportunity, but Courtois was there to stop Cyle Larin's header from inside the box.

But Belgium was able to achieve the 1-0 victory to have their first 3 points in Qatar 2022 and sit at the top of Group F.
