UN representative meets FM, head of Myanmar's SAC


(MENAFN) Noeleen Heyzer, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Myanmar, met with Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the head of the State Administration Council (SAC), and U Wunna Maung Lwin, the foreign minister, on Wednesday in Nay Pyi Taw.

Heyzer and Min Aung Hlaing discussed ways to strengthen ties and collaboration between Myanmar and the UN, according to official media in Myanmar.

U Wunna Maung Lwin briefed the UN special envoy on the status of affairs in Myanmar and urged the organization to reevaluate its strategy for working with Myanmar in a practical and productive manner, according to a statement from the foreign ministry.

Heyzer, a Singaporean, visited Myanmar for the first time on Tuesday in Nay Pyi Taw after being named the UN secretary-special general's envoy for Myanmar in October of last year.
