Doha: INJAZ Qatar, in partnership with Boeing and STEM for Kids introduced 200 students of the Edison Group schools to the secrets of 'Science All Around Us', through a series of workshops focused on exploring the science in everyday life.

STEM for Kids, an education organization that provides science, technology, engineering & maths (STEM)-based courses, designed and delivered the hands-on program to groups of 10- to 14-year old students (grades 6 to 8), to engage young people in scientific research.

This initiative is in line with the emphasis that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education has placed on the importance of STEM learning.

During the program, students solved challenges that investigated common scientific phenomena and mechanisms including 'Why do we notice small patches of sunlight when we pass under a tree covered with leaves?' (Pinhole Camera), 'How has a simple machine or screw helped mankind in transporting water from a low-lying body of water to irrigation ditches?' (Archimedes' Screw) and 'If a prism can scatter white light into its constituent colors, can all these colors combine to form white light?' (Newton's Wheel).

HE Sheikha Hanadi bint Nasser Al Thani, Chairperson of INJAZ Qatar and INJAZ Al Arab; Roula Droubi, Regional Director of Government, Industrial and Community Engagement at Boeing Middle East and North Africa; Aida Al Shehry, Owner of the Edison Group schools; Emad Al Khaja, CEO of INJAZ Qatar; principals and teachers from various Edison schools attended an event held at Edison International Academy in Lusail to celebrate the implementation of the STEM workshops at the Edison schools.

During the event, guests visited students in the classroom who showcased the various STEM projects they had worked on.

HE Sheikha Hanadi commented:“We are very pleased with our partnership with Boeing MENA, which has been steadily growing over the past 13 years. The 'Science All Around Us' STEM workshops are the latest offering in the field of Work-Readiness, one of INJAZ's three key pillars. We must prepare today's youth for tomorrow's jobs, and STEM education is the ideal platform to reach that objective. We believe that offering such programs meets the country's increasing demand for youth STEM & job-readiness education, which is a crucial element of human development being a key objective of Qatar's National Vision 2030.”

Kuljit Ghata-Aura, President, Boeing Middle East, Turkey and Africa, said:“Boeing is committed to inspiring and motivating the next generation of engineers, scientists and innovators, and programs like 'Science All Around Us' play an important role in engaging students in STEM education and careers. Boeing has a long-standing partnership with INJAZ to develop programs for young people in Qatar and the region, and we are very pleased to have worked with INJAZ Qatar, STEM for Kids and Edison Group Schools to engage these pupils to develop their skills, imagination and scientific curiosity.”

The STEM workshops help students gain foundational literacy, scientific literacy, computational thinking; critical thinking, problem solving, creativity, communication, and collaboration skills. They also developed their curiosity, initiative, perseverance, adaptability, leadership, and social and cultural awareness.
