SLPP Agrees To Back A New PM In All-Party Government

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has agreed to the appointment of a new Prime Minister replacing current Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa in an all-party Government.
The National Freedom Front said that there cannot be an all-party government if Mahinda Rajapaksa remains as Prime Minister.
National Freedom Front member and MP Jayantha Samaraweera said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has already accepted a set of proposals put forward by 11 independent Political parties.
“The President urged us to nominate a 5 member committee to discuss the proposals with other political parties. So the committee had talks with the SLPP,” MP Jayantha Samaraweera said.
He said that the SLPP accepted the proposals and talks are now underway with other political parties to seek their support, including with the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
MP Jayantha Samaraweera said that the all-party Government will be formed only after the current Cabinet and Prime Minister are removed. (Colombo Gazette)
