IEA inaugurates major irrigation project, 1.5 million acres of land to be irrigated

Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan inaugurated the major irrigating project-Qushtipa Channel- in the northern Balkh province that will irrigate over 1.5 million acres of agricultural land.
The channel that will get completed in five years stretches 285 kilometers.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister and head of the economic commission of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and a number of ministers.
Mullah Baradar termed the project as vital and added that it will provide employment opportunities for youths.
Further, Baradar added that he prioritize the project and stopped other tasks after the National Development Firm informed him about it.
As per the government officials, up to 250,000 people to be employed in the project.
Head of Afghanistan National Development Firm Abdurahman Attash said the project will be run by an all-Afghan team of engineers and that 2,800 pieces of machines will be tasked during the project.
Meanwhile, acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Abdurahman Rashid said, this is Afghanistan's first and the biggest project that will benefit the agricultural sector in the country.
Economic analysts believe that the completion of the project will stop imports of wheat to Afghanistan and the country's agricultural crops will increase.
