AMMAN — Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Bisher Al Khasawneh on Thursday inaugurated the Ministry of Agriculture's new headquarters.

During the tour, Agriculture Minister Khaled Huneifat briefed Khasawneh on the new building in Amman's Tabarbour region, a deal that could save around JD425,000 in annual rent payments.

The premier, during his meeting with the ministry's senior officials, highlighted efforts towards supporting farmers and easing obstacles hindering the sector's progress, notably reducing production costs and supporting exports, noting that the new electricity tariff will help in this arena.

He also highlighted His Majesty King Abdullah's vision of turning Jordan into a regional hub for food security, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

“We are discussing a tripartite mechanism involving Jordan, Egypt and Iraq,” he said, emphasising the UAE's keenness to achieve integration in the field of food security. He also highlighted the direct impacts of international crises on basic foodstuff, the most recent of which are the current crises in the Black Sea region and Europe and its impact on the flow of wheat, barley and vegetable oils imports.

Huneifat said that the ministry's new 7,000 sq.m headquarters provides a work-friendly environment and helps provide services to the citizens and investors in the agriculture sector.
