Srinagar- Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant from north Kashmir's Bandipora district.

Police, 26 Assam Rifles and the personnel of CRPF 3rd battalion established a checkpoint in Aloosa area of the district on the basis of specific input about the presence of militants, a police spokesperson said Tuesday.

“A suspicious individual was seen approaching the naka and on being challenged by the joint parties, the individual tried to flee into the nearby orchards. He was chased by the joint party and tactfully apprehended,” he said.

He said that the detained youth identified himself as Danish Ahmed Shah @ Haris of Ellahipora Aloosa and during his frisking one Chinese pistol and a grenade was recovered from his possession.

During initial questioning, the spokesperson said that Shah disclosed that he was working at the behest of LeT handlers Samama @ Ali and Hilal Malik, at present in Pakistan, and the arms seized from him had been provided to him through Laskar conduits.

Shah, he said, had been recruited as a hybrid militant by killed Lashkar militant Ashiq War and after War's death in 2019 was subsequently handled by militant Fayaz War.

“It further came to light that the individual was currently arranging travel documents to travel to Pakistan for seeking specialised arms and ammunition training,” he said.

The spokesperson also said that the detained youth is also suspected to be involved in assisting the recent attacks in Bandipora and it is currently a matter of investigation.

“A Case under the relevant provisions of law has been registered in Police Station Bandipora and further investigation is underway,” he added.
