Cairo – The annual coordination meeting of the Joint Arab Foreign Chambers of Commerce that took place on Monday (17) at the headquarters of the Secretariat General of the Arab League drew attention to the urgent need of implementing an electronic link between the customs of the Arab countries in order to facilitate trade.
The meeting was co-chaired by Ahmed Aboul Gheit, secretary-general of the Arab League ; Abdullah Muhammad Al Mazrouei, chairman of the Union of Arab Chambers; and dr. Khaled Hanafi, secretary-general of the Union of Arab Chambers. It was attended by foreign presidents, Arab vice presidents and secretary-generals of joint chambers. Tamer Mansour (pictured above, R), CEO and secretary of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) participated.
Ahmed Aboul Gheit praised the efforts of the chambers of commerce in developing their activities and services to hold new events, as well as coordinating and cooperating with joint chambers to implement the new projects they are working on, particularly on digital network platforms.
Gheit stressed that these established institutions are fully supported by the economic branch of the Arab League as they play a major role for the Arab economic integration and investment attraction.
Federation of Arab Chambers chairman Abdullah Muhammad Al Mazrouei congratulated the chambers for their efforts and ongoing work despite the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic that has imapcted both global and Arab economies, and for the prestigious position achieved as advanced contact points between the Arab countries and friend countries.
Al Mazrouei pointed out the achievements made and the major role expected from the entities in light of the growing need for development nowadays, considering the global trend towards the digital economy, to serve the development needs of Arab countries in a more balanced, fair basis, as well as increasing the pace of integration of the Arab economy into the global economic system and the spread of the modern, state-of-art technology transfer for the sustainable develop and strengthening innovation, entrepreneurship and several key sectors.
Union of Arab Chambers secretary-general Khaled Hanafi stressed that the joint Arab foreign chambers are an influential bloc in the political and economic arena of the their host countries, as they are always seeking to develop the economic diplomacy and give importance to the role of the chambers, which is not just a protocol but a purpose that the economy generates riches for the involved countries and contribute to their development.

Hanafi said that the chambers of commerce are considered“experimental houses” and that they are the main communication routes between the two sides sides, Arab and foreigner, with the purpose of creating economic alliances and follow the global economic development, especially regarding the digital economy like blockchain and joint databases .
He also stressed the importance of turning crises into opportunities.“This has been done by the joint chambers during the COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the world since late 2019, as the chambers have continued to provide their services, implementing programs and activities and holding specialized forums online,” he said.
Hanafi encouraged Arab customs to create an electronic link with the joint chamber to fast-track the registration process and customs clearance, as well as the need for establishing a joint workplan between the Union and the Arab League chambers to create several cultural activities that could help bring people together, thus boosting the relations across different areas and creating training programs between Arab Chambers.
ABCC secretary-general Tamer Mansour said that the annual coordination meeting of the joint Arab foreign chambers of commerce addressed many key points, including identifying the activities of the joint chambers during the two years of pandemic (2020-2021) and the workplan of the chambers for this year.
Mansour added that the meeting also covered the experiences of the joint chambers in the digital economy , which has been largely imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years. It was also agreed that they will hold the joint room week and participate in the World Entrepreneurs Investment Forum (WEIF) and the second edition of the Arab Rally for Entrepreneurship & Innovation from March 28 to 30 in the Expo 2020 Dubai.
