The 11th edition of the Katara International Dhow Festival, inaugurated last week, continues to attract more visitors who enjoy various activities that reflect the marine heritage and traditions of Qatar and the region.
The festival will remain open daily for the public until December 18 from 9am to 12 noon and from 3pm to 10pm at Katara - The Cultural Village. During weekends, the festival will remain open until 11pm. On Fridays, the festival will open at 3pm.
A cinematic presentation of the 'Fath Al Khair' trips is available to visitors on all days. There is a floating café which offers a unique opportunity for visitors to see the dhows and the festival from the sea. Visitors will be able to access the cafe via the free water taxi located on the beach.
Artistic performances are presented by folk bands throughout the festival days. There are exhibitions displaying maritime heritage collections from various participating countries, special pavilions of traditional handicrafts, and workshops showcasing ship-building process, in addition to marine competitions.
This edition of the festival is also distinguished by shows and a series of workshops related to handicrafts that shed light on the marine heritage encompassing the making of ships and boats (galaf) which occupies a prominent position among the traditional industries. There are live demonstrations of fishing, pearl diving and trade, folk craft such as palm fronds, wood, blacksmithing, spinning (fishing nets), in addition to the presence of the traditional marketplace.
