Doha: Promoted Al Shamal yesterday registered the first upset of the new QNB Stars League season when they shocked Qatar SC 2-1 at the Khalifa International Stadium.
Al Shamal had an impressive start and went ahead in their third round match after Bahaa Faisal was on target in the 25th-minute penalty. Amjad Attwan doubled the lead in 36th minute before Qatar SC slashed the lead through Djamel Benlamri, nine minutes before time. Al Shamal, however maintained their lead to open their account.
Later in the evening at the Khalifa International Stadium, Al Arabi scored late to bounce back after a defeat to Al Du hail, edging Al Sailiya 1-0.
Striker Youssef Msakni was the star for The Dream Team firing the winner in 83rd minute.
Meanwhile, the other match yesterday at Al Arabi Stadium saw 10-man Al Ahli holding Umm Salal to a 1-1 draw.
Patrick Eze scored the equaliser for Al Ahli three minutes before time after Umm Salal got an early lead through Aymen Hussein, who struck in 3rd minute. Al Ahli were reduced to 10 men after Ali Qadry was sent off in 63rd minute.
