Rise 4.1 pct seen in Chinese rail cargo in 2020


(MENAFN) As economic activity gradually revived, the volume of cargo transferred on Chinese railways registered a year-on-year rise of 4.1 percent in 2020.

Figures from the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway) showed that railways transferred 3.58 billion tonnes of freight last year, a rise by 141 million tonnes in comparison with a year earlier.

The figures demonstrated that the number of containers transferred over railways rose 36.7 percent annually.

Rail freight volume is commonly considered a main indicator for economic performance.
