Laos: New project to enhance nutrition


(MENAFN) Local communities in the northern provinces of Laos will profit from a pilot scheme which was initiated to develop nutrition levels and people's living situations.

The scheme would offer technical aid and advice to facilitate the communities to create their merchandise more professionally and of higher quality, local daily Vientiane Times on Tuesday cited Executive Director of the Poverty Reduction Fund (PRF), Chit Thavisay, as stating.

The scheme is being initiated in 248 villages covering 12 regions in the aimed provinces of Phongsaly, Xieng Khuang, Huaphan and Oudomxay, with a center on basic infrastructure, nutrition support and income generation activities for local people.
A senior administrator from the Nutrition Center of the Ministry of Health, who wanted to stay unidentified, repeated that poverty was the main reason for exploiting and underweight children under five years of age in these provinces.
