(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The Joint Committee for Removing Abandoned Vehicles at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) yesterday launched a campaign to remove abandoned vehicles from a number of places across Al Wakra Municipality.
The inspectors marked 900 abandoned vehicles at Al Wakra Municipality. After giving a grace period to owners, a week-long campaign began yesterday to remove the abandoned vehicles.
The committee removed about 4,300 abandoned vehicles during the past three months and a total of 8,300 abandoned vehicles were removed this year from different municipalities under different campaigns.
The details about the sixth campaign which was launched in July 2020 were given by the members of the committee at the campaign at Al Wakra yesterday.
'The campaign targeted to remove all abandoned vehicles from across Al Wakra Municipality, Head of General Monitoring Section of Al Wakra Municipality, Ali Nasser Al Kuwari told media persons at the campaign.
He said that the campaign began from Al Jabal area of Al Wakra Municipality, after removing abandoned vehicles from there, it will move to Al Wakra Central, North, South, Al Mashaf, Al Wukair and other parts of the Municipality.
'All abandoned vehicles ranging from 800 to 900 have been marked. Now the operation started to remove them in coordination with the committee, said Al Kuwari.
He said that about 50 percent of owners removed their vehicles before the beginning of the campaign and the vehicles of those owners who failed to remove their cars in the given time will be removed without delays. Deputy Director of the Cleanliness Department, and a member of the Joint Committee, Mohamad Faraj Al Kubaisi said that this campaign will last for a week in Al Wakra until the removal of all marked abandoned vehicles.
The Deputy Director of the Cleanliness Department, and a member of the Joint Committee, Mohamad Faraj Al Kubaisi, said that the joint committee intensified inspection campaign to remove all abandoned vehicles from across the country. Al Kubaisi urged owners to not abandon their vehicles at public places, residential areas, industrial areas and other places.
Assistant Director of Mechanical Equipment Department, Marzouq Al Mesaifiri, who is also a member of the Joint Committee, said that the campaign for removing abandoned vehicles began in July covering a number of municipalities including Doha, Al Rayan, Al Khor and Al Zakhira, Al Daayen and Umm Salal.
He said that since the beginning of the campaign in July, 2020, until now, about 4,300 abandoned vehicles have been removed.
However, he said, the Joint Committee removed about 8,300 abandoned vehicles from all over the municipalities this year.
Lieutenant Mohamad Al Saaq from the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) said that patrolling of Lekhwiya and equipment deployed to remove the abandoned vehicles to ensure the public hygiene and protect the environment.
Head of the General Monitoring Section at Doha Municipality, Hamad Sultan Al Shahwani thanked to those owners who removed their abandoned vehicles during the given period.
