Netherlands' Sifan Hassan yesterday completed a unique 1,500-10,000m double at the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 after easing to victory in the shorter race at the Khalifa International Stadium.
The Dutchwoman, who won the 10,000 last Saturday, amused spectators with her dominating show as she clocked 3:51.95 - a new championships record to win a Gold medal in women's 1,500m.
'This is amazing for me. This is such an honour, said a jubilant Hassan.
'I am showing what you can do with the hardwork. It was amazing when I crossed the finish line and saw that time. I was so happy as this was a hard win for me, she added.
'I felt very good after 10,000m so I decided to go for 1,500m. I have been working hard for 1,500m this season. It looked this was easy for me but it took so much hardwork, said Hassan.
It was an amazing run from Hassan yesterday as she led from the start and continued her big lead right till the end to win the race, and set a new precedence as no one has ever completed the 1,500-10,000m double before.
Kenya's Faith Kipyegon, who came to Doha to defend her title without racing much this season due to the birth of her first child, came in second for a silver medal in 3:54.22, a new national record.
Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay was third fastest, as she clocked 3:54.38, her personal best.
'I did my best, Hassan was at my expectation, she finished strong, said Tsegay.
'I was just focusing on ending in a medal position. I did my best. The race was a good preparation for Tokyo, although I really wanted to do a better medal today. I want to get a good result for my country in Olympics, she added.
'The organisation of these world championships is fine and the weather is good, it is nice, said the Ethiopian star.
