Oil imports in Germany on lowest level

The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) revealed on Friday that the oil imports in Germany in 2018 have decreased over 5 million tons in comparison with 2017 and it saw the lowest level since 1992.

The imports stood at 84.8 million tons in 2018 and were far below the 30 year record in 2005 with 114.5 million tons.

Russia had been the most important supplier of oil for Germany in 2018 with about 29.2 million tons. In 2018, Germany got over than a third of its crude oil from Russia.

The second biggest supplier was Norway, followed by Libya, Kazakhstan, Nigeria and Britain, which together made up over a third of Germany's crude oil imports.
