Prominent Bulgarian artist Dilly Bozadzhieva integrates traditional elements in 15 hand felted merino wool art paintings in 'The Beauty of Traditions exhibition which opened on Monday at Katara Cultural Village.

While women wearing traditional Bulgarian costumes are depicted in most of the artworks, some of the paintings show breathtaking landscapes all painted in vivid colours.

'The great variety of costumes in different parts of the country is a result of the diverse ethnicities in Bulgarian lands through the ages. The customs, the manners and the costumes were formed by the influence of this diversity and that gifted them with rich colours, embroidery and decorations, explained Metin Kazak, Ambassador of Bulgaria to Qatar, at the opening of the exhibition.

'The exhibition presents the strength and beauty of women and the way they express themselves by their clothing, said Kazak, adding all the artworks were made of merino wool which is ecological and environment friendly.

A first in Qatar, the exhibition is set to visit other countries and acquaint people with Bulgarian traditions and the beauty of its national costumes, said the ambassador.

Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara said 'Art is the common language among peoples through which they seek to communicate their culture, heritage and traditions. This exhibition clearly introduces us to the long and beautiful tradition and culture of Bulgaria through the eyes of the artist using a unique medium.

He stressed that Katara fulfills its mission through these exhibitions to be a bridge of communication between peoples and a platform where artists in all kinds of arts and interests meet.

Born in Kubrat, Bulgaria, Bozadzhieva graduated from the School of Applied Arts and has a master's degree in Fashion Design. Working with merino wool is her trademark as a painter and designer combining colours on merino wool to produce breathtaking images.

Creating artworks using merino wool involves a technique which uses a special needle to felt the fibers of the material combining different colours making each painting unique and can't be repeated.

' I am pleased to present my exhibition in Katara, which I hope will be an opportunity to communicate with the Qataris and people living in Qatar Bulgarian traditions, said the artist.

The exhibition is open from 10am to 10pm until September 14 at Building 22.
